I think muslims can accept funding as long as the government does NOT put too many clauses on how the money would be spent and those clauses DO NOT go against the teachings of the Noble Quran.
Many muslim communities in western countries are a SMALL community and to get resources...or doing up buildings to make into masjids...well...they dont have enough of their OWN funds to complete. So by given grants...or funds to allow these to happen...well mashaAllah they then NOW have the funds to do so.
Many muslim communities buy buildings and then have to do some building to allow the building to be functional as a masjid. Such as adding wudu rooms...a muslimah room etc.
My masjid...we dont have ANY muslimah wudu or toilet area for muslimah and children. The brothers have their own one...but there is NOTHING for muslimah and children. Brothers refuse to provide the funds in order to allow developement of the masjid to build a wudu and toilet area for muslimah and children. This is because they follow their culture more then islam and refuse for their wives or woman to attend the masjid and want to ban ALL women from the masjid. InshaAllah we as muslimah will SLOWLY raise the funds to do this ourselves....but that will be MANY years away until that money is saved....so yes we MAY have to apply for funding from the government to help with this.
what kind of harm.....harm to the community?
Yes, in USA and England. Self-serving, even harmful. Annie
i think you have some valid points - do you think in light of that its ok for muslims to accept govt funding?
Assalamu alaykum
For any government to put funds into ANYTHING there has to be some type of gain for them...as in looks good when there are elections coming up...etc...or for them to save face after been shown in the media that they had faults in some areas that NEEDED money spent on it....or....they will use as a weapon of control and will have clauses of how and what the funds are ALLOWED to be spent on which is acceptable to THEM.
